You know – sunrise in Vancouver really is beautiful. The sun comes up over the mountains, reflecting through alleyways of big glass buildings, and then shining off the water in the harbour. Awesome
In my own writing I tend to build off pretty specific mental images – almost like musical descriptions of stuff I daydream about. All this sunshine and glass reminds me of a tune I did a couple years inspired by exactly that – the Vancouver city line. I was walking along Granville downtown and coming across the bridge and totally fell in love with the way the city looks:
This was also about the time that I fell in love with the Battery 3 VST. It’s full of amazing drum samples that you can really get some realistic drum performances out of . The brush and kick drum groove in this tune is all done with those great-sounding samples. I love how realistic and expressive they sound!
ANYWAY – here’s the tune I *meant* to put up before I got all sentimental! A few years ago my good friend Mathieu Benoit and I got taped to do some writing for the Hemmings House TV series “Wrestling Reality”. This was the first writing I had ever done for something TV and I was absolutely thrilled! I was really looking forward to breaking in some new recording gazmos (something which is both a gadzet AND a gizmo!). This tune is the result of some screwing around with Guitar Rig, and my first experiments with keyboard bass!
As usual the drums are all done with Fruity Loops, keyboard bass is the ‘monologue’ synth VST that comes with Cubase, and all guitars are processed through guitar rig.
Speaking of ‘mental images’, I was heavy into the remake of battlestar galactica when I did this one – so imagine if you will little fighter starships in an intense battle zipping through asteroids!
I know – I’m a huge nerd. *shrug*
