Biography

Halifax’s music scene is a burgeoning hot bed of quality blues, funk, and rock, tempered by more than a century of songwriting tradition. It is here that 4 young men draw their inspiration.

Tapping the organic soul of the singer-songwriter, unapologetic funk rock, and the indulgent joy of the jam, TELFER is united by one love – good music. The sound is vibrant then aggressive, pensive then colourful, heavy and then free. Their debut LP, BORN THIS MORNING, invites the listener through the dance, through the crowd, and into the hearts of 4 guys who love to play music.

- 2008 Harvest Jazz and Blues Festival: CBC Galaxie Rising Star Award (winner)

- 2009 Music Nova Scotia Awards: Best New Group/Artist Recording (nominated)

“On one hand, Telfer is a wicked live jam band, on the other hand, a band that soars with beautiful melodies and cinematic-type songs. It adds up to two ears full of goodness.” - Sean Crawford (Afternoon Drive, C103, Moncton, NB)

“I’m down with this funky sound … The debut album’s highlight is anthem “Claws in Deep,” an intense and sexy song as rich in heavy chords as in raunchy lyrics: ‘Dig your claws in deep and I’ll put up a fight, keep you up all night.’” – Hilary Beaumont (The Coast, Halifax, NS)

” This band can get down and dirty and jam on some great blues and funk, and then turn around and melt your heart with some tenderness. They’re one of the reasons to be proud of East Coast talent and I have to say, I’m a fan.” - Ryan “Crash” Barton (Mid Day Host, 105.3FM The Fox, Fredericton, NB)

“…one of the most exciting and entertaining live groups to come out of the Maritimes in years.” - Bob Mersereau (CBC TV, Fredericton, NB)

“Telfer’s debut is a solid effort from a band that can write and rock and – like the bands that have influenced them – their work ethic is nice to see in this age of instant everything.” – Mike Campbell (Owner, The Carleton, Halifax, NS)

“This is a solid album from a group of guys that have ears beyond their years. It captures the energy of what they do live, while still serving the songs, and sounds really fat. May Jimmy not quit, Jody not get married, and the van not break down. I want to hear more records from this band.” – John Parker (General Manager, Long & McQuade, Halifax, NS)
